Soft Living Isn't About Giving Up
Living softly is choosing peace in a world that profits from your exhaustion.

Living softly is a quiet revolution that
we desperately need and deserve.

A Slower Perspective
Soft living isn’t about giving up; it’s not about aesthetics either. Living softly has always been a quiet revolution, in which the overworked and overwhelmed choose freedom from exhaustion and from an unlived life. Originating from Nigeria, the movement has always been about rest, boundaries, and birthing a cultural reset.
However, those indoctrinated into hyper-capitalist societies take offense to the movement, equating it to laziness and a fleeting example of luxury. It doesn’t help that in recent years, its purpose has become buried beneath 5:00 AM morning routines, Pilates, avocado toast, and matching gym set TikToks. But as we slow down here together, we remember. We remember that our minds, bodies, and beings deserve rest—to be free of stress and to detach our self-worth from productivity. Not just sometimes, once we hit a wall, or when we remember to, but every single day. It’s a daily practice we have to choose. It’s a showcase of silent strength, rebellion, and therapy more than anything, not a throwing in of the towel or chasing a trend. It’s us saying that as human beings (emphasis on beings), we deserve every day to be a peaceful one.

A Thoughtful Ritual for This Week
In honor of this week’s topic of soft living, try saying “no” to one activity that’ll add to your mountain of pressure. Some may forget that a soft life comes with practicing boundary setting, and boundaries are a form of self-respect. If there’s something that’ll be too much for you, give yourself permission to let that thing go.
Tiny Shifts to Consider
Practice saying no without overexplaining.
Stop treating rest like it’s something you have to earn.
Stop making everything a side hustle; it’s okay to have hobbies.
Create more white space in your calendar to do whatever you like.
Make everyday moments feel intentional; soft living doesn’t require luxury.
A Prompt for Your Sunday Reset
As we enter this next week, we hope you feel empowered to live a little more softly with us. If it’s too hard a task for you, try journaling or asking yourself:
How can I be softer with myself? How can I give myself grace? What’s one or two things I can take off my plate? What’s one thing I can do to make my days easier… calmer? How can I enjoy life more?
